Uranium may be in your backyard

From what I can gather, this device (a 'geigerscope') would make visible the flashes of radiation given off by radioactive substances such as uranium. But (not mentioned by the ad) it only worked in complete darkness, with a dark-adapted eye. So not a practical way to hunt for uranium deposits.

And if you had uranium in your backyard, you might wanna find somewhere else to live.

Where I grew up (Huntington Beach) it was oil. I remember my parents telling us the deed to our house stipulated that you only owned the property to a depth of 2 feet. That way you knew from the get go that you weren´t going to get rich.

My older sisters had a solution: put someone under a box and shove in rocks. (Guess who was the only one small enough to fit the largest box available.) It was, of course, my fault none of them glowed. (It was also later revealed that it was my fault mom's favorite paperweight ended up in the pile of rocks tested.)

Of course, there's (mildly) radioactive material all over the place, so a flash from this device means nothing. You might just live in Aberdeen.
